Cumbia Africana

Victor Kiswell, did not come to Colombia to seek for the usual clichés. Drugs, FARCs, violence, it is not his subject. What this vinyl digger is truly interested about is Cumbia : a musical style that was born in the 17th century in this country stuck in-between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean. Cumbia music is a fusion between the drums of African slaves, the Amerindians melody, and the harmony of the conquistadors. It had fallen into disuse but it came back into fashion at the end of the year 2000s and it now resonates in the trendy nightclubs all over the world. Victor is in search of the African roots of this music. This second episode of Vinyl Bazaar offers you a magnificent journey into a side of Colombia that is often disregarded.
